RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Hassad constantly seeks to support the local research and development efforts, where it regularly collaborates with local institutions in R&D projects, with the aim of boosting the local agricultural sector and to support achieving self sufficiency objectives.
In late 2019, Hassad collaborated with distinguished international and local entities to launch Qatar’s first pilot water saving greenhouse at one of Hassad’s greenhouses in Al Shahaniya.
Upon project completion (following one year of trials), the pilot greenhouse revealed great results in yield and water consumption for fresh vegetables cultivation. The productivity achieved in the greenhouse was three times higher than the average productivity of tomato cultivation in Qatar, while water consumption was 12 times less – that was achieved by using the innovative water saving system and applying the tailored fertilizer recipes in the pilot greenhouse.
